A depiction of the Concord Minute Man statue by Daniel French represents the heritage of the citizen-soldier and customarily stands for the National Guard. Dark blue is the color usually associated with the National Guard. Gold is symbolic of honor and excellence and refers to honorable and worthy service. Red represents the nation that the National Guard serves and protects.
Lapel buttons are worn by males on the left lapel of civilian clothing and females wear the buttons in a similar location on their civilian attire.
The Army National Guard leadership approved the design on 15 September 2015.
